Champions League football WILL go ahead in midweek, despite Premier League fixtures being cancelled in wake of the Queen’s death.
The United Kingdom, the commonwealth and the entire world was rocked on Thursday by the news that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away aged 96.
As the country enters a period of mourning, all football, down to grassroots level, has been cancelled. That is also expected to be the case next weekend.
With a round of Champions League and Europa League fixtures coming up this week, fans will be eager to learn if they will still have their European football fix.
According to The Sun, the green light HAS been given for those games to take place, even those that are taking place on English soil.
Fans, even those deeply mourning the loss of the Queen, will no doubt be delighted to learn that these games will still be staged midweek.
The teams involved will undoubtedly pay their respects to Her Majesty. Perhaps that will prove to be more powerful than outright cancelling the games.
