The Premier League is OFF this weekend – here’s why

All Premier League and EFL fixtures this weekend are set to be postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The news which filtered through on Thursday broke the hearts of an entire nation, with Her Majesty’s unforgettable reign coming to an end.

She passed in peace, at one of her beloved residences, a dignified death for a woman with more dignity than most in this modern world.

As a consequence of her passing, the United Kingdom will look very different, in different functions of society, between now and her funeral.

As the country enters a period of mourning, all political, sporting and comedy events have been cancelled – that includes the footballing calendar.

There will be no Premier League or EFL fixtures taking place this weekend, with the country mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a season like no other, with a World Cup sandwich in the middle, rearranging those games is going to be a serious challenge.

However, as per tradition, they must be postponed as the country mourns their loss.
