WATCH: There’s A New Contender For Best Irish Euro 2016 Song

Posted by

Whilst waiting outside a bar in Turners Cross in anticipation of Ireland’s friendly game against Belarus yesterday we stumbled across a very distinctive performer with a paddy hat and long ginger sideburns singing a very unique and catchy Euro 2016 song.

His name was Andy Wilson and he’s recorded a track for the Boys in Green with a group named the Longshots and we think it has fierce potential of being one of the songs of the Euros.

The song is called Summer of ’16 and has a very addictive lyrics as well as an upbeat tune that we think the people of Ireland will really appreciate.

With over 15,000 views on Youtube and 26k on Instagram we think it’s fair to say that Andy Wilson and the Longshots have a very good shot of being successful this summer.

Check out the official music video and sing along to the lyrics below. “Here we go…”

LYRICS:

From the rolling hills of Donegal
to the banks of the river Lee
and the mouth of the river Liffey
to the Wild atlantic sea

In the summer of sixteen
We’ll be following the team
and we’ll all stand up together
and we’ll follow the boys in green

Johnny Burke’s in Cincinnatti
Mary Sullivan’s in Skibbereen
They’re in Shanghai and Abhu Dhabi
and they’re everywhere in between

We’ll be singing on the Ferry
we’ll be singing in the camper van
you’ll be glad that joxer’s driving
when you’re sipping on a warm beer can

From the rolling hills of Donegal
to the banks of the river Lee
and the mouth of the river Liffey
to the Wild atlantic sea

From Lahinch and Ennistymon
to the beach at Curraghcloe
Ballycastle and Rathlin Island
Here we go here we go here we go

And we could have had Jack Grealish
but he couldn’t make up his mind
and now the boys in green are off to France
and leaving him behind

to win we’ll need a miracle
like the fishes and the loaves
or Stephen Ireland’s granny
rising from the dead in cobh (here we go!)

From the rolling hills of Donegal
to the banks of the river Lee
and the mouth of the river Liffey
to the Wild atlantic sea

In the summer of sixteen
we’ll be following the dream
and we’ll all stand up together
when we follow the boys in green

We’re a nation that’s divided,
there’s a team for north and south
you change countries when you drive
from county Armagh into Louth

But it doesn’t seem to matter
because the two teams qualified
when we’re over there with our ginger hair
we’ll be standing side by side!

From the rolling hills of Donegal
to the banks of the river Lee
and the mouth of the river Liffey
to the Wild atlantic sea

From Lahinch and Ennistymon
to the beach at Curraghcloe
Ballycastle and Rathlin Island
Here we go here we go here we go…

Jimmy’s drinking in Falcarragh
Michael’s working on the long mile road
have you seen or heard from Darragh?
Is he happy is he coming home?

Donal’s out in Bratislava
and he’s playing the GAA
we’ll see him at ten by the banks of the Seine
and we’ll all watch Ireland play

From the east to the west there’ll be no rest
’til we pull in to St. Tropez
and with the tents in the ground we’ll be all gathered round
for a song at the end of the day HERE WE GO
