Brian Cody and Derek McGrath will watch their team battle it out on Sunday for a place in the All-Ireland SHC final, and the two managers have shared their thoughts ahead of the game.
Cody’s Kilkenny are strong favourites for the win, and McGrath is all too aware of the magnitude of the task facing his young Waterford team.
“We’re aware of the reasons why we’re 4-1 in the bookies,” McGrath said. But at the same time, sport is sport.
“You play to win, and we hope to be highly competitive.”
Cautious Cody also rates his opposition and feels they may not be getting the respect they deserve.
“It’s not as if they (Waterford) have come from nowhere,” he said. “A lot of these players are very, very young and have had great underage careers.
“Two years ago we went to extra-time against them in the Championship, and we did very well to get out of that game.”
