UFC bantamweight contenders Rob Font and ‘Magic’ Marlon Moraes collided on Sunday morning (UK time) in a hotly anticipated match-up which undoubtedly had serious title implications. Font rose to the task as he beat his Brazilian counterpart during the first round thanks to some absolutely vicious ground n’ pound.
Font, 33, came into Sunday’s main card match-up off the back of two fight win streak and was desperate to break his way into the division’s top 10 rankings.
Elsewhere, Morares, 32, was hoping to get back into the win column after an October loss to Cory ‘Sandman’ Sandhagen plunged the South American into third in the rankings.
However, it was to be Font’s night, despite starting the fight on the back-foot and finding himself in a grounded position, the American sprung into action with just over a minute of the first-round to go.
After rocking Morares from a pin-point uppercut, Font wasted no time in delivering blow after blow from the ground.
Referee Mark Goddard was left with very little choice but to call the fight as Font continued to light the Brazilian up.
