Olivier Giroud had one of the goals of the tournament ruled out in France’s 3-1 demolition of Poland.
France secured their place in the quarter-finals after brushing aside their European counterparts. Goals from Giroud and Kylian Mbappe.
Giroud broke France’s all-time goal-scoring record when he finished past his former Arsenal teammate, Wojciech Szczęsny, late in the first half. The smart finish took him one above Thierry Henry with 52 international goals.
However, the 36-year-old almost made it 53, when he attempted an audacious bicycle kick early in the second half.

Unfortunately for him and everybody watching on, the goal was ruled out by the referee who spotted a foul in the build-up.
This wasn’t the first time Giroud pulled off an acrobatic shot.
He won the Puskas award in 2017 for a scorpion kick.
