Video: Arsenal Score Penalty After Controversial Kieran Tierney Dive

Arsenal went 1-0 up in today’s London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea thanks to a converted penalty from Alexandre Lacazette but the awarding of the penalty is what has fans talking.

Kieran Tierney and Reece James seemed to collide inside the box and no complaint from James made it seem like it was a stonewall penalty. Michael Oliver was 100% certain but it went to VAR and all the extra angles really confused commentators and fans. The angle from behind shows minimal to zero contact from the Chelsea defender but controversially the VAR official decided to not intervene. What do you think?

Surely there isn’t enough contact for a penalty here? Why didn’t the video assistant referee intervene? Why wasn’t Michael Oliver asked to go and look at the monitor himself? This situation raises so many questions over the integrity of the whole VAR system.
