There has been mixed reaction to the news that Tyrone’s Tiernan McCann has has his proposed eight-week ban lifted – as decided by the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) late last night.
McCann is free to face Kerry in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final on Sunday after the CHC decided his ludicrous dive during the quarter-final encounter with Mayo warranted a yellow card, but not the proposed punishment for misconduct.
Some commentators were disappointed as they felt a more severe punishemnt for McCann would have sent out a strong message against diving.
But the majority favoured the decision, although many felt it should never have come to a CHC meeting 4 days before a crucial match.
McCann won’t be forgetting about the incident anytime soon though – the punishment may have gone away, but the jokes will last quite a bit longer.
