TWEETS: ‘Have we a match?’ Epic banter from League of Ireland player

Fans of the SSE Airtricity League are fond of saying they have the ‘greatest league in the world’ – they even have that exact hashtag – check out #greatestleagueintheworld.

They may also have the biggest joker in football – judging by last night’s tweets involving Longford Town player Pat Flynn.

Longford were playing Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup and tweeted a score update to their followers.

The first answer they got was from Flynn, expressing his shock that there was a game.

He followed the first tweet up with some truly excellent visuals in his next post – if his football is as fluent as his emoji-speak Longford Town have themselves a serious player.

If you’re wondering why the club didn’t react to Flynn’s tweet, it is because he’s actually out injured and was just having a laugh.

Their opponent Shamrock Rovers – who Flynn played for previously – then decided to join in the joke. They tweeted to say they had scored and check that Flynn was on the way.

The player professed himself determined to get there, but unfortunately the game ended in Rovers’s favour before Flynn could join in.

Well played all round.
