Chelsea striker Timo Werner is reportedly a shock transfer target for cash-rich Newcastle United.
Newcastle, following the recently completed takeover by a Saudi consortium, are now comfortably the richest football club on the planet.
With the Magpies lingering precariously in the relegation zone of the Premier League, you think it likely that considerable investment will be made in January to ensure their top division status is maintained.
Newcastle have already been linked with countless different players, but this one is particularly eyebrow-raising…
True ✅ @NUFC ist interested in @TimoWerner. The agency of Werner has already a client with Fabian Schär at Newcastle and is regularly in contact with the Club @BILD_Sport pic.twitter.com/ZIybJKvUOd

Werner has been a disappointment at Stamford Bridge but looks to be hitting a purple patch of form. Newcastle are seemingly keen to take advantage of that by getting him through the door.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea would be willing to sell Werner mid-season, or if the player himself would be prepared to move to St. James’ Park, but money talks – and Newcastle have plenty of it.
