🚨 Teddy Atlas names the best fighter he ever trained and snubs Mike Tyson

Teddy Atlas has trained some of the biggest names in the sport.

Atlas helped guide a young Mike Tyson when he first entered the sport but things soured when he heard rumours Tyson had allegedly been sexually assaulting a family member.

Later he would confront Tyson with a gun, firing it off near his ear as a warning to never do it again. Atlas was then sent packing from the Catskill Boxing Club and the pair never worked together again.

He’s went on to train the likes of Michael Moorer, Tim Bradley, and Shannon Briggs but he credits Wilfred Benitez as being the best talent he worked with.

“Sometimes you go to the Academy Awards and one movie wins all the awards. What are you gonna do? That would be Benitez,” said Atlas when speaking to The Ring.

“Anyone who could beat Roberto Duran, amongst many other great fighters, that’s a pretty good resume. I would say Benitez overall was the package. He was a special fighter.”

On Mike Tyson he gave a pretty scathing assessment.

“Tyson’s talent was so great, his physical ability was so overwhelming, his talent was so superior that the other stuff never got tested, he was blowing guys out, it never got tested if there was anything in the warehouse.

To me, a fight is not a fight until there is any resistance, something to overcome, otherwise, it’s just an athletic venture, just an exhibition.

Five times, whatever the real record is, five times there was resistance, five times it became a real fight, five times there was something to overcome, and he failed all five times. He was only in five fights in his life, and he’s 0 in 5.”
