Uruguay has been thrown out of the World Cup after a dramatic end to their group games.
Going into today’s fixtures it looked like a straightforward battle between Uruguay and Ghana for the second-place spot in Group H. Uruguay helped up their end by scoring two goals and cruising to full-time, it looked like they were destined for the next round.
But in the other game, where it was assumed that Portugal would dispatch South Korea with ease, everything wasn’t going as expected. Thanks to a 91st-minute winner from Hwang Hee-chan, the Koreans made a surprise jump into second place thanks to a superior goal difference.
Word filtered through and you could visually see how upset some of the Uruguayan players were getting.

The game then descended into chaos, with blue shirts being thrown forward at will. But it was not enough, the game ended 2-0 and Uruguay was eliminated by one single goal.
South Korea will now face the winners of Group G, which will likely be Brazil, who play Cameroon later tonight. This is only the third time in history that they have progressed past the group stages.
