Brandon Glanton knocked out Mario Aguilar in the ProBox TV main event last night – with the referee showing better chin strength than the Mexican.
Every time a referee steps into the boxing ring, they recognise that there is a, albeit slim, chance of them being punched in the face during the duration of the contest.
Wild swings, oftentimes through desperation, have struck referees and caused legitimate damage, with others displaying immense chin strength that any fighter could be proud of.
In this case, it was the latter, with an aimless swipe from Mario Aguilar landed plum on the referee’s chin, with the official stumbling backwards before regaining his legs.
It was, by some distance, the best punch that Aguilar was able to land before being finished by Brandon Glanton, and even that wasn’t enough to cause any sort of damage to the referee.
It’s an embarrassing moment for the boxer, but the referee can go home to his wife having displayed the kind of strength and courage that any top fighter could wear with pride…
