Burnley striker Ashley Barnes will be forced to pay a fine and serve a ban after being found guilty of drink driving offences, as is reported by The Sun.
Barnes, who is best known for his combative performances at the spearhead of Sean Dyche’s forward line, was pulled over by police after he and his Burnley teammates celebrated ensuring they would be playing Premier League football next campaign, as is reported by The Sun.
The 31-year-old, who was found to have been boozing at the party with his Burnley teammates, before getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes and driving home at 3am, has been banned from driving for 12 months and fined £13,725, as is mentioned in the report.

There’s certainly an argument to be made as to whether punishments of this kind, which serves as nothing more than a slap on the wrists for a Premier League footballer, are a sufficient deterrent for drink driving, which kills an average of 666 people a year in the UK, as per drinkdriving.org.
In the same breath, it would be wrong to make an example out of Barnes merely because of his occupation. Let’s hope that he never makes a mistake of this nature again, because after all, he is supposed to be a role model for the younger generation of Burnley supporters.
