The Premier League have confirmed the cancellation of two fixtures as the country begins preparations to lay Queen Elizabeth II to rest.
Her Majesty tragically passed away last Thursday, aged 96, sending the entire United Kingdom into a period of mourning.
Her funeral has been set for next Monday 19th September, which King Charles III subsequently announced would be a national bank holiday.
The funeral of a queen will be a widely-attended event and will subsequently require extensive police coverage, which has had its impact on the Premier League.
It has today been confirmed that none of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United will be playing this weekend.
PL now confirm Chelsea v Liverpool, Manchester United v Leeds and Brighton v Palace OFF. All other games ON.

Chelsea vs Liverpool taking place in London the day before the Queen’s funeral poses an obvious strain on police forces.
Greater Manchester Police have also rented resources to London ahead of the funeral, hence the cancellation of Manchester United vs Leeds United.
It’s an enormous frustration for fans, no doubt, but these are unprecedented circumstances.
