Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has reportedly told friends that he is keen on signing for Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Luiz emerged as a target for the Gunners in their late-window scramble to sign a defensive midfielder. They were unable to complete a deal in time, with the Brazilian remaining at Villa Park.
A fresh injury problem for Thomas Partey has reaffirmed the dire need for midfield reinforcements at the Emirates, but there is nothing that Mikel Arteta can do about it until January comes around.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal could return for Luiz in January and it certainly seems as though the player would be interested in making the move, were a deal agreed with Villa.
As per the report, Luiz has already told his friends that he would like to become an Arsenal player in the new year and is hoping that Arteta and Edu’s interest in signing him remains.
That will not go down well with Villa fans, who will be hoping and praying that Luiz stays and would undoubtedly be confirmed that his head is elsewhere in this crucial period of the season.
We’ll have to wait and see how things play out and whether there are any other options on the transfer market that prove to be more appealing for Arsenal come January.
