Ousmane Coulibaly is understood to be in a ‘stable’ condition after the Mali international suffered a suspected heart attack during a Qatari league game.
Coulibaly was competing for Al Wakrah in a QNB Stars League match with James Rodriguez’s Al Rayyan when he collapsed to the turf and immediately looked in some significant distress.
The Mali international was tended to by the medical staff in the stadium and rushed to hospital. He is understood to have suffered a heart attack during the game.
Naturally, fans have been anxious for an update on Coulibaly’s condition, and via his wife, they have received one:
“Thank-you for your messages of support and love, Ousmane is in stable condition due to his heart attack, he regains consciousness slowly but surely.”

The 32-year-old is incredibly fortunate to survived. The medics that were on hand to provide him with treatment may well have saved his life. They have been honoured by the league for their efforts.

Incidents of this nature are happening all too often in our game. It’s crucial that every stadium is equipped with a defibrillator in order to provide players with the best possible chance of survival.
