Nuno Espirito Santo reveals whose idea it was to cover Adama Traore with baby oil

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed the story that his powerhouse winger Adama Traore lathers himself up in baby oil before games to make it harder for defenders to grab him and also to help prevent further injury to his shoulder.

It was revealed last August that the reason behind the strange ritual was to make it more difficult for opponents to get a grip of the Spaniard when trying to grab him or slow him down.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s trip to runaway leaders Manchester City, Santo said: “It was not my idea, but I thought it was honestly a fantastic idea by the medical department because it came from the injury that he had with his shoulder.

“That was caused basically because of holding of his arm and creating this strong impact on his shoulder and he got injured from that.

“It’s hard to stop Adama, it’s very hard to stop him, and that avoids that situation.

“He becomes more slippery, so we get the advantage of his speed and talent.

“It was an option to avoid it, and from then on, he’s kept on doing it and it’s good.”

The Spanish international played four games for Barcelona before moving over to England at the age of 18. He moved to Aston Villa from Barca for an initial fee of €10m.

Traore was signed by Wolves in 2018 and has played over 100 times for the club. In 2020, he made three appearances for Spanish national team.
