Gareth Southgate nonsensically claimed that last night’s defeat to Italy was a step in the right direction for England.
England dropped down to the B-tier of the Nations League after being beaten by Italy, who were not even able to qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
The Three Lions have just one game remaining until the World Cup, against Germany this coming Monday, and are an absolute mess at current.
Still, Southgate is remaining positive and has gone as far as claiming as last night’s defeat to the Italians was actually a GOOD thing from an England perspective.
Southgate: “I personally felt the performance was a step in the right direction.
But I appreciate because of the result that won’t be the reaction.”

It’s hard to decipher exactly what Southgate could be talking about here, with England having created next to nothing against Italy and ultimately lost.
England are winless in five games and needed a result last night as a confidence booster. They didn’t get one and now look devoid of all confidence.
It’d take nothing short of a miracle now for Southgate to lead England to success in the World Cup. He is truly deluded if he thought last night was positive.
