The former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen took a hammering on twitter last night for insisting that Liverpool are still the best team in Europe, despite losing the Champions League final to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Liverpool went down one goal to nil against the Spanish giants and people really aren’t happy with the former Balon D’or winner Michael Owen and his punditry through out the game last night. See some of the tweets from angry and confused fans below;

Liverpool didn't score a single goal in normal time in three finals. They've been brilliant all season but embarrassing of Michael Owen to try to claim they are the best team in Europe. Would be more helpful to analyse where they have (just) fallen short.

It was a disappointing end to the Liverpool season after coming so close to winning all four trophy’s. Sadly for the Reds they will just to pick themselves up and go again next year.
