The Belfast bantamweight beat Danish southpaw Frederik Jensen on a unanimous decision (30-27,30-27,30-27).

Conlan is the first of four Irish boxers fighting for semi-final places today. Dean Walsh is in action in the next few minutes while Adam Nolan and Joe Ward fight later this evening.

In addition to guaranteeing at least a bronze medal, the win earns Conlan an outright place at October’s AIBA World Elite Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Doha, Qatar.
