The Red Devils suffered another setback on Saturday by being held to a one all draw against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City. With that result the Manchester club can kiss the top four good luck and Champions League football for next season with it.
Manchester United brought in Ralf Rangnick to replace their former legendary striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of the club last year. This has not gone to plan to say the least. Statically Rangnick is the worst manager the club has had since 1981 and you have to question what was the point in bringing in the German in the first place?
The front runners to get the Manchester United job are Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino, both would be a great choice and you can get live match bets on who you think will be the next Red Devils manager.
We all know the job Erik ten Hag did with Ajax in getting them to the Champions League semi-final on a very limited budget compared to the other big spenders in Europe.
The same can be said for the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino who did an excellent job in North London, sure there’s been a wobble with PSG this season and the class at his disposal, but there’s no doubting his a classy operator. If the 50 year old is picked and choses to go to the Old Trafford club, the Red Devils will be extremely lucky to have him.
There will be no quick fixes with Manchester United and unlike 20 years ago when it was a very different league and only a handful of World Class clubs in the Premier League. The Premier League is now a worldwide competition with players coming from every part of the world and serious money in the league. Newcastle, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Everton and Leicester City all have serious money now.
Manchester United have to clear out seven or eight of their players and bring in able replacements to better the squad or look to the academy. And because Manchester United are who they are, clubs are going to charge them a lot more because they’re desperate and still have a lot of money at their disposal.
Whoever gets the job will have to clear house and demand a lot more from the Manchester United board in order to compete with the best clubs in the world. Manchester United needs fixing sooner rather than later otherwise Old Trafford could turn into a Museum of what once was…
