How do you fix Manchester United?

Posted by

Another absolute shocker for Manchester United on Sunday against their arch-old rivals in the form of Liverpool. The red side of Manchester lost three goals to nil on their home turf and really it could have been a lot more than three.

What’s the solution for Manchester United though? Surely it’s only a matter of time till their current manager Erik ten Hag is sacked, but then what?

“It was a difficult afternoon, but they have to realise what they are playing against,” said the former legendary midfielder Paul Scholes on Premier League Productions.

“We know United have work to do. The centre of the pitch is a big problem. I thought Liverpool were miles ahead of them.”

The one positive for Red Devil fans was their new signing Matthijs de Ligt, the 25-year-old did what he could and showed promise and looked natural out there on the pitch. Even 20-year-old Toby Collyer came on for Casemiro in difficult circumstances and put in a good shift.

If you were a top, top player would you really want to come to Manchester United anymore?

The fact of the matter is Manchester United are way off the pace, they have a stadium that is seriously outdated, poor training facilities, and a bit of a shadow that leans over them in the form of their noisy neighbours in Manchester City.

United fans laughed at Liverpool for going 20 years without winning the league, it’s been over 10 years now since the Red Devils have won the league. Can you see Manchester United winning the Premier League in the next five years?

If Manchester United does decide to sack Erik ten Hag, it’s looking like their former legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will step up to the place and one thing that the Old Trafford club is going to have to do eventually is stick with a manager for a long period of time and persist like they did with a young Scottish manager 30-odd years ago in the form of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United will always be a massive club, the history and the players that have gone through that club commands enormous respect. But the last thing the Red Devils want to be known as is history FC.

Whether they sack Erik ten Hag or not, eventually they are going to have to stick with one manager and they’re going to have to realise that the football world has changed drastically in the last few years. Maybe their expectations are going to have to come down a bit…
