Man United announce double swoop

Manchester United have confirmed the signings of Germany World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger and Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

And in a further boost the club have revealed the inclusion of goalkeeper David De Gea in their squad for the pre-season tour to the United States, seemingly ruling out any imminent move to Real Madrid.

The arrivals of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin continue United’s summer statement of intent following earlier deals for Dutchman Memphis Depay and Torino defender Matteo Darmian.

Schweinsteiger has agreed a three-year deal while 25-year-old Schneiderlin has signed for four years with the option of a further one-year extension.

France international Schneiderlin said: “I am delighted to be a Manchester United player. Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make.

“I have enjoyed seven very happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss.”

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin are both expected to feature in some part of United’s pre-season tour to the United States, which kicks off against Mexican side Club America in Seattle on July 17.

Meanwhile De Gea’s inclusion in United’s travelling party – revealed by the club in an official tweet – appears to suggest the player is unlikely to complete a move to Real Madrid.

United are still awaiting a formal approach from the Spanish giants, who sold long-term number one Iker Casillas to Porto this week.
