Liverpool considering pulling the plug on summer signing after slow start

Liverpool are already considering pulling the plug on their loan deal for Arthur Melo, according to TMW.

Jurgen Klopp conceded late in the transfer window that Liverpool needed to bring another central midfielder into the squad, by which point the market was scarce.

Arthur Melo was made available on loan by Juventus, along with teammate Denis Zakaria, with Liverpool taking a punt on the former Barcelona midfielder.

It’s still very much early days, but the signs aren’t particularly positive. According to TMW, Liverpool are already thinking about pulling the plug on the loan deal.

Were they to do so, it’d presumably be in the January transfer window with the club then pursuing alternative, long-term targets in that area of the pitch.

Arthur may still turn things around and be a success at Anfield but that oftentimes proves too difficult if you have a slow start following a transfer of this kind.

It reeks of Saul Niguez to Chelsea last summer, which has to be one of the most bizarre, pointless loans we’ve ever seen in the Premier League…
