Lionel Messi wins La Liga ‘Pichichi’ award for a record seventh time

Barcelona megastar Lionel Messi has won the Pichichi for a record seventh time but says he’d happily trade it in for another La Liga title.

Messi received the award for being the La Liga top scorer once again bagging 25 goals last season.

It’s Messi’s seventh time winning the award which is a new league record previously set by Telmo Zarra who played for Athletic Bilbao in the 1940s and 50s.

After receiving the award Messi was asked my Marca if he’s thinking about winning an eight?

‘An eighth Pichichi? I don’t know, nor am I thinking about it, it is not something I am worried or obsessed about, I would prefer to win LaLiga before getting the Pichichi, we are fighting towards that.

‘We are slowly growing. We struggled to get going in the league, nor did we deserve to drop all those points, we could have won several of those games, like at Alaves, Getafe, Real Madrid.

‘We created a lot of chances, that would have changed the situation, but we have to put together a run of good games to get ourselves back at the top.’
