But, Mexican great Julio César Chávez believes he would have beaten him and has explained why.

“I believe that at 140lbs, 135lbs I would have beaten him definitely,” said Chavez when speaking to PremierLiveTV.

“I would have beaten him why? Because that was my weight. I could never dial 147lbs. I fought for the championship but no it was not my weight, you understand me.

“At 135 or 140 I would have beaten Mayweather. Remember that I fought with his uncle and his uncle was the one who taught him so I think I would have beaten him.”

Boxing from 1980 until 1995 Chavez had an incredible run, winning his first 87 fights before drawing with Pernell Whitaker.

Ending his career with a record of 107 wins, 6 defeats and 2 draws he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for the Class of 2011.
