Mixed martial artist and lightweight superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov has been named the BBC’s World Sports Star of the Year.
Nurmagomedov, 32, who boasts a perfect 29-0 professional MMA record has been named the winner of the illustrious award after showcasing a simply superb sporting record.
The 32-year-old 155lb legend retired earlier this year after successfully defending his title against Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje at UFC 254.
In light of the pound-for-pound great’s retirement, the BBC have honoured the Dagestan wrestling superstar with the title of ‘World Sports Star 2020’.
Nurmagomedov took to his official social media on Friday to confirm the news with the caption: “This award means a lot for me.
Recognition is the one of the biggest motivation in the life, as in the sport.”
It is not yet known whether or not MMA fans can expect to see Nurmagomedov return to the octagon, but in a recent interview, president Dana White admitted he was ‘confident’ he could make the star make a U-turn on his original decision.
