Stoke attacker Jon Walters has handed in a transfer request as he bids to force a move to another Premier League club, with Norwich City among the front-runners for his signature.
The Canaries have had a pair of bids for Walters rejected and the Irish international stayed in England today to sort out his club future.
“There may be something happening to him,” said Martin O’Neill after giving Walters leave from Ireland training this morning.
“He wasn’t completely sure and there was little point in coming here for this morning and then maybe having to travel back.
“While there’s a possibility of something happening to him, then I think its best that he sees it out until the transfer deadline is finished.”
Since then, Sky News have reported the news of Walters’ transfer request, which comes after Stoke rejected Norwich’s offer of £2million for the versatile forward.

Stoke have signed a number of attackers including Joselu, Ibrahim Afellay and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer but Mark Hughes has so far rebuffed any advances for Walters.
