🚨 Imane Khelif wins again to book spot in gold medal contest at Olympics

Imane Khelif beat Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng to progress to the women’s welterweight final.

The Algerian is now guaranteed at least a silver medal and will fight for gold on Friday.

Khelif sparked huge debate over whether she should be able to compete at the Paris Games after it emerged that the athlete had failed an unspecified gender eligibility test at last year’s World Championships.

Last week Khelif came under even more scrutiny when Italian boxer Angela Carini pulled out of their match just 46 seconds into the clash.

But, the 25-year-old put all the controversy aside to beat Thailand’s Suwannapheng by unanimous decision to set up a gold medal clash.

The women’s welterweight (66kg) gold medal bout is scheduled to take place on Friday.

Khelif will face China’s Yang Liu in the women’s welterweight gold medal fight after Yang beat Taiwan’s Chen Nien-chin by split decision.
