England crashed out of the 2022 World Cup on Saturday evening as they lost 2-1 to France, leaving the competition at the quarter-final stage.
The Three Lions imposed themselves very well against the French, but came up short as they could not beat the reigning world champions.
Harry Kane levelled the scores with a penalty early in the second half after Aurelien Tchouameni gave France the lead in the first 45, and following Olivier Giroud’s restoration of Les Blues’ lead on 78 minutes, Kane missed a second penalty for England with just under ten minutes to play, blazing his effort over the bar with his club team mate Hugo Lloris mobbed by his fellow Frenchmen.
That miss ultimately decided the result, as England couldn’t recover and were sent packing.
Since the conclusion of the match, Lloris has admitted that he was quite sad to see Kane miss his spot kick, believing that the striker will bounce back from the disappointment.

“But on a personal level, I am also saddened because Harry is a team-mate, a man whom I respect enormously and someone who took responsibility in a crucial moment of the game.
“But I know that Harry is strong and that this hurt will pass for him.”
France’s victory means they will face Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening, after the African nation beat Portugal 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
