Eddie Hearn has revealed that he has initiated talks for a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol.
At a time when it looked as though no fighter on the planet, irrespective of weight division, could beat Canelo Alvarez, Dmitry Bivol taught the Mexican a lesson.
Canelo moved up in weight in order to challenge Bivol for his belt and that proved to be one step too far for the pound-for-pound great, who was beaten on points.
Canelo has bounced back emphatically, as you’d expect, but there’s no denying that the defeat to Bivol remains a blotch on his record, one which hasn’t been corrected.
There didn’t appear to be any initial interest in a rematch from either party, but Eddie Hearn has revealed that has now changed, with a fight planned for 2023.
Eddie Hearn has declared that he’s already talking to Canelo Alvarez’s team about a potential Dmitry Bivol rematch in 2023, providing Bivol beats Gilberto Ramirez on Nov 5th. He said he believes Canelo will “absolutely” remain with Matchroom. [@Boxing_Social]

Of course, that depends on Bivol remaining world champion. Were he to be defeated by Gilberto Ramirez, there’d be little reason for Canelo to take the risk again.
We’d certainly like to see it again, with Canelo often looking unbeatable but Bivol making him look ordinary. The rematch would be one hell of an intriguing game of chess.
