Haydock a must for Weld’s Mustajeeb

Mustajeeb is likely to have his first run since Royal Ascot in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 5.

Trainer Dermot Weld has been waiting for the ground to ease before pitching the four-year-old colt back on the racecourse after he found conditions too lively when fifth to Undrafted in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

“As far as I know, Dermot is still hoping to get him to Haydock,” said Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager, Angus Gold.

“After Ascot we felt he wanted a bit of ease in the ground to show his best, so we’ll just see what the next few days brings us and how he is, but Dermot was happy with him the last time I spoke to him.

“Ascot was too quick for him. Dermot originally wanted to go to Deauville for the Maurice de Gheest and then when Sheikh Hamdan said he was going to let Muhaarar go there, Dermot said we’ll wait and have a look at Haydock.”
