Lewis Hamilton was understandably BEAMING after the conclusion of the Bahrain GP, having somehow swindled his way onto the podium.
While Mercedes, and Hamilton in particular, will have been keen to bounce back emphatically from Abu Dhabi disappointment and assert their dominance on the new F1 season, it was Ferrari whose hard work in the off-season paid off on the track, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz achieving a memorable 1-2.
However, Toto Wolff and the rest of the Mercedes team will be equally delighted this evening, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez BOTH encountering late-race problems and subsequently not scoring a point… while Lewis Hamilton somehow managed to get himself on the podium.
He said it himself – that was as good as Mercedes could have asked for, all things considered.

The Mercedes mechanics back at the factory will be working tirelessly to ensure that the gap is closed on Ferrari and Red Bull before long, but for now, they can enjoy the outcome of a race which could not plausibly have gone any more in their further without some degree of scripting. Remarkable!
