Former Real Madrid player Hamit Altintop was fortunate to escape with his life after a frightening attack on the Turkish Football Federation HQ.
Altintop, who is best known for his stints at the Santiago Bernabeu and Allianz Arena, in addition to his 82 appearances for the Turkish National Team, now sits on the board of the Turkish Football Federation.
While moving upstairs after concluding his football career was supposed to be a mundane career switch, one that would help him see out his life in peace, that couldn’t have been further from the reality.
As is reported by Hurriyet Daily News, Altintop found himself ducking for cover while at work at the Turkish Football Federation HQ after two gunmen opened fire on the building.
The report claims that, remarkably, nobody was hurt in the attack, despite 11 shorts having been fired by the assailants and five of those bullets striking the Turkish Football Federation building.
Both suspects in the shooting were subsequently arrested by police, who deemed them both to be drunk at the time of the attack. Their motives are currently unclear.
Altintop, and everyone else present at the building at the time of the shooting, will undoubtedly be feeling seriously grateful that their health remains intact following the attack.
