After 16 seasons, I have decided that the time is right for me to announce my retirement from inter county hurling. To have been entrusted to represent Limerick by the numerous management teams and sharing the dressing room with all my past and current team-mates has been a great honour. I leave with fantastic memories, lifelong friends and an immense pride in what we have achieved.

The highlight of my playing career was undoubtedly being apart of the team that ended the 45 years wait to bring the Liam McCarthy Cup back to Limerick. Coming back to the county with the Cup is something I will treasure forever. I will always be very grateful to John and his management team for allowing me to play a part in that.

A special thank you to my wife, Laura. You have made untold sacrifice to allow me to chase my goals and I will be forever grateful. It has made the journey extra special having you and in more recent years, our two girls Róise & Aislinn, to share in the success.

Thanks to my family, in particular my parents, Orla & Tommy, my brother, Jake, my sisters, Zoe & Bróna, and to Mark & Liz Mellett and family for your support throughout the years. You have been instrumental to the success of my hurling career. Your constant encouragement and guidance throughout the highs and lows has been so greatly appreciated and there are no words to describe my gratitude to you.

I would like to thank my club Kilmallock GAA, fellow club players, coaches and mentors for their support. I am also extremely grateful to the Kilmallock National School, Kilmallock Utd. and the wider Kilmallock community for your encouragement and guidance from a young age. It has been a privilege to represent the town.

Thank you to my current employers (Arup Consulting Engineers) and previous employers (Response Engineering) for your support and understanding of the commitments needed to sustain in tandem, a demanding sporting and professional career.

I would like to thank the Limerick County Board, Club Limerick, Club Limerick Dublin and Club Limerick New York. You have always been very supportive of the Team, and you continue to play a huge part in providing a platform for Limerick GAA to be successful.

To JP, Noreen and all the McManus family. A sincere thank you for your continued support for all in Limerick GAA and for your incredible generosity to the wider Gaelic Games communities across the country. It is greatly appreciated.

Finally, I look forward to joining the wonderful Limerick Hurling Supporters in following the 2025 panel and management. I have no doubt there are more great days ahead for this Limerick Team.
