Tyson Fury has claimed that he has proposed Anthony Joshua with a generous 60/40 purse split for their proposed ‘Battle of Britain’ bout.
Fury and Joshua have been going back and forth on social media, with their respective promoters, Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, subsequently involving themselves in the conversation.
When Fury initially proposed the idea of him fighting Joshua next, very few took him seriously. After all, Fury says a lot online and doesn’t often throw his actions behind his words.
However, in this instance, it really does look like he wants the fight with Joshua, so much so that he claims he has tabled a 60/40 offer to the struggling heavyweight.
If Joshua were ranked in the top 15 by the WBC or the mandatory challenger for the belt, he would be entitled to 10% less than that, so there’s no doubting the generosity.
Of course, there is an argument that Joshua, with three losses in five fights, probably shouldn’t be taking on arguably the best heavyweight fighter there is in the business.
That said, his reputation is battered and beaten at current. Joshua can ill afford to snub such an offer and still be taken seriously by British boxing fans.
