According to the Daily Mail former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has had his contract terminated by Istanbul Basaksehir after the 36-year-old picked up a serious achilles injury.
Skrtel had his contract at Istanbul Basaksehir terminated by mutual consent after suffering a season-ending injury when he ruptured his Achilles during a league match against Kasimpasa.
The game finished 2-2 and upon assessment it was clear that Skrtel would be ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Slovakian had featured in 10 times in the league this season and made five Champions League appearances providing one assist and picking up three yellow cards.
Basaksehir were quick to fill the void left by Skrtel’s departure by bringing in AC Milan defender Leo Duarte on a year-and-a-half loan until the end of the season.
Sktrel could be looking at anywhere between 6-12 months before he makes it back to full-fitness and even then the now free-agent may find it hard to find a new club as he will be closing in on his 37th birthday.
