An astonishing 83% of England supporters want Gareth Southgate sacked before the World Cup.
England’s shocking performance against Italy on Friday night saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat and they were subsequently relegated to the lower tier of the Nations League.
The Three Lions have just one game remaining until they jet off to Qatar, and on recent evidence, they’d do well to progress from the group stages of the competition.
Southgate is drowning, that is clear, but it’s surely now too late to make a managerial change, with the World Cup right on the horizon and no warm-up games pencilled in for a potential new manager.
Still, England fans are furious, and as is reported by The Sun, 83% of them have decided that their patience with Southgate has run out and they want him sacked – now.
There is an argument that England stand no chance in Qatar the way that they are playing at current, so taking a punt on a different manager could be the best avenue to go down.
However, Southgate is both the FA’s and the media’s darling, he will be afforded time to turn things around, but it may just cost England any chance of succeeding at the World Cup.
