Former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey has claimed that current young hotshots Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé don’t compare to a young Michael Owen.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Heskey said “Whenever everyone talks about stats and young players coming through at a certain age, I always go to Michael,” Heskey said.
“I start comparing them with him, and a lot of them don’t compare to him.
“For the stuff he did and the age he did it at, and his maturity at that age as well.
“But then again, you play from the age of 16 and you’re going to pick up injuries – and that was his downfall, the amount of football he was playing.”
PSG striker Kylian Mbappé and Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland are being hailed as the heir’s to the throne’s that will be left vacant by legends Ronaldo and Messi when they retire.
The duo will most likely not reach the same dizzying heights as Ronaldo and Messi but as their careers wind down football fans are looking to see who will carry the mantle in the future and it looks as though the French and Norwegian strikers may be the men for the job.
