Gareth Southgate’s England side were booed off the pitch at the San Siro after a dismal defeat to Italy on Friday evening.
Southgate’s side, who are now winless in their last five games, produced the kind of lifeless, spiritless performance that we have grown accustomed to under his stewardship.
Granted, England have enjoyed deep runs into the last two major tournaments, but that’s in no small part down to favourable draws that have been gifted to them – it’s papered over the cracks.
With the personnel within the squad, England should be serious challengers in Qatar, yet last night were beaten by a side who didn’t even manage to qualify for the World Cup.
Needless to say, as The Sun report, the travelling contingent of England fans were NOT happy, booing Southgate, booing the players and branding them ‘EMBARRASSING’.
With just one game to go until the World Cup, against Germany of all teams, things are not looking good for England, who could be in store for yet another major tournament flop.
Were England to stutter and stumble out of the World Cup, you have to assume it would be the final nail in Southgate’s coffin…
