Demetrious Johnson makes no-nonsense statement on a possible return to the UFC

Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson has ruled out a return to the UFC after admitting that he will retire after he is done with competing in Asian promotion, One Championship.

Johnson, 34, wrote his name in the UFC’s history books after becoming arguably the greatest male Flyweight to ever step foot in the Octagon.

The hugely talented American went on a monumental 13 fight win streak between 2012 and 2018 before eventually losing his converted title to Henry Cejudo during the pair’s long-awaited rematch at UFC 227.

In light of Mighty Mouse’s Flyweight reign coming to an end, the 34-year-old opted to part ways with Dana White and co. and instead move to up and coming Asian promotion, One Championship.

Now competing in One Championship’s 135lb division and currently on a three fight win streak, speculation surrounding whether or not the former UFC great will ever make a shock return to the UFC has mounted.

Johnson has addressed suggestions he may be open to returning to compete in the UFC’s Bantamweight division during a recent interview with ESPN.

“I’ll tell you what – I’m not coming back to 125. I’ll tell you that right now…No. It’s too much work.” Johnson admitted, as quoted by MMA News“It’s not too much work, but I feel like my body works better just natural, right?

“I mean if I’m walking around at 128 pounds – and I have no fat on me, I’m shredded as is right now – and to cut down to 125, it’s just not healthy for the liver. I’m getting older now. It’s just like, I’m not worried about it.

“I got a lot (of fights left on my One Championship contract). I’m gonna retire in One Championship. I’m not coming back to…This is my last stop.”
