The former Clare goalkeeper and now Waterford boss for his second stint with the south east county was speaking on Off the Ball this week and has called for anyone that thinks they can assault the referee, should get a lifetime ban from the GAA.

Colm Parkinson thinks Davy Fitzgerald would want to look at himself too, it’s probably not a bad point the former Laois footballer makes, but I don’t think Davy Fitzgerald would ever touch a referee.
You won't get a bigger Davy Fitzgerald fan than me, but unfortunately, he is a big part of the problem.
When people see someone like him consistently verbally abuse referees, it excuses their own behaviour.

There’s no doubt about it, but there’s a bit problem in the GAA of how supporters, coaches and even players treat referee’s and this has to change sooner rather then later, as GAA is going out to a wider audience ever more now and stuff like this can’t continue to be tolerated.
