A truly DAMNING Opta stat, shared in wake of England’s defeat to Italy, shows exactly why Gareth Southgate needs to be sacked.
England’s defeat to Italy at the San Siro on Friday night saw them drop down into the lower tier of the Nations League, egg on the face of Southgate and co.
Any glimmer of hope that England could succeed in the upcoming Qatar World Cup is fading fast, with England without a win in FIVE games for the first time since 2014.
That stat is damning enough in itself, but nothing could compare to this below, which puts England on par with one of the worst international sides of all time.
0 – England are one of only two nations yet to score a single non-penalty goal in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League. The other nation is San Marino. Gulp. pic.twitter.com/UqYk9u66eM

International managers do a little jig every time they’re drawn alongside San Marino, who are often beaten 6, 7, 8-0 every time they take to the field on the international stage.
That’s the level that England find themselves on now, at least from an attacking perspective, with Southgate’s lifeless football suffocating the life out of the Three Lions.
There’s an argument that he should be sacked, there’s an argument that it’s too late, but either way, England look well and truly screwed for the World Cup.
