Cristiano Ronaldo refuses ‘Globe Soccer Player of the Year Award’ and gives it to Lewandowski

According to Tuttosport Cristiano Ronaldo turned down the ‘Globe Soccer Player if the Year’ award and instead gave it to Robert Lewandowski because he felt he didn’t deserve to win it.

Ronaldo was on the shortlist for the award with Lewandowski and Messi but felt he only won it due to his global popularity and Lewandowski was the true winner after his spectacular 55 goal season.

The Juventus striker was set to pick up the award in Dubai on Sunday after fans voted him as the best player for 2020 but reports from Tuttosport claim his agent Jorge Mendes decided to turn the award down as they thought it was “unfair” and Ronaldo only won because of his popularity.

Ronaldo did however win the ‘Player of the Century’ award pipping his long time rival Lionel Messi to the prestigious prize.

Upon accepting yet another accolade Ronaldo said: “For 20 consecutive years I have played and scored as a professional, I didn’t know there was another record to beat.

“It’s a pleasure to hear about the records, I have achieved all this but without my teammates, without a great team, I would not have achieved these records.

The now 35-year-old Ronaldo has given no indication that he is ready to stop playing and so long as there are records to break and trophies to win it seems the five time ballon d’Or winner will continue to push himself for as many years as he possibly can.
