The man to last lead the rebels to lift the Sam Maguire trophy back in 2010, Conor Counihan is set to step down from his position in the Cork development committee.

The double All-Ireland winning defender is now set to retire in September however, according to the The Echo’s Barry O’Mahony.

Counihan was give the remit of project co-ordinator for football in the count implementing an ambitious five-year plan which he helped conceive along with Brian Cuthbert, Graham Canty and then county board chief Tracey Kennedy.

Counihan was in charge of the Rebels as a coach for five seasons, delivering that All-Ireland title in 2010, three national leagues and three provincial crowns.
