Sam Kerr of Chelsea Women is set to be the official flag bearer for Australia at the King’s Coronation next Saturday.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who will also be in attendance at Westminster Abbey made the announcement of Kerr taking the honour for her nation earlier this week.
A statement from Albanese’s office (via The Sun) read: “The prime minister will join the governor-general, state governors and a number of other Australian representatives (at the coronation), including Ms Sam Kerr OAM who will be the Australian flagbearer.”
Kerr has been at Chelsea since 2020 and has gone on to score 81 goals in 99 appearances for the Blues, while she is also set to captain her nation – for whom she has 63 in 120 caps – at the 2023 World Cup in Australia this summer.
