Unsanctioned Chelsea ready to complete €80m signing with ‘verbal agreement’ in place

Chelsea have a ‘verbal agreement’ in place over the signing of France international Jules Kounde from Sevilla, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues attempted to poach Kounde from Sevilla last summer but the move collapsed after the La Liga giants moved the goalposts over the asking price.

Sevilla are understood to have referred to Kounde’s €80m (£68.6m) release clause in their efforts to get Chelsea to stump up the cash. Marina Granovskaia abandoned the transfer.

Chelsea are back in for Kounde now, though, and as per a report by Sky Sports published on Saturday afternoon, the Blues already have a ‘verbal agreement’ in place with Sevilla.

It is unclear how close that agreement is to the release clause in Kounde’s contract, but considering Sevilla have already sold Diego Carlos to Aston Villa, they won’t be selling on the cheap.

The reality is that with Chelsea having lost Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and potentially soon Cesar Azpilicueta, the need for Kound has multiplied. Sevilla will be well aware of that fact.
