Chelsea fans were not impressed with Romelu Lukaku’s first-half performance against Chesterfield this evening.
Eyebrows were raised when Thomas Tuchel made the decision to name Lukaku in the starting XI against a side who currently play their football in the National League.
However, Lukaku is lacking in match practice, so Tuchel was likely keen for him to get more minutes under his belt in order to help restore his match rhythm.
Although Lukaku was among the four Chelsea goal-scorers in the first-half against Chesterfield, it was evident exactly how off the pace he is at current.

After a rather lacklustre 45 minutes from their £97m man against non-league opposition, it’s no surprise that Chelsea fans weren’t best impressed.
Lukaku has already ensured he’s in the Chelsea supporters’ bad books with his controversial comments in a recent interview.
It’s safe to say this performance this evening hasn’t helped him earn any respect back within the Chelsea Twitter community…

This Lukaku hold up play thing looks hypothetical at best, or else do you explain why the ball bounces off his foot each time he tries to “hold up” for his teammates?

Lukaku is a great finisher, absolutely fantastic at that. But a ball player, he is NOT. Followed football for over 3 and half decades, I can’t think of many top forwards with such a relentlessly awful first touch. I say this in good faith.

Lukaku is genuinely such a bad player oh my God
world class finisher, but a fucking atrocious player

Hook Lukaku at half time, not to rest him, but as a statement.
Pardon my French, but what the f*ck was that half?!— xTimo 🏆 (@xTimoZiyertz) January 8, 2022
As for Romelu Lukaku… I’d leave him out there for the full 90. Everything is so loose. He’s clearly lacking sharpness.
Currently looks as though we’ve paid £97m for Grant Holt.
