The former Liverpool defender was talking on Sky Sports and said: “I think it is brilliant for the Premier League, not just Man Utd, he is an absolute superstar and he was when he was here initially.
“When he went to Real Madrid, he almost went on to another level then and he’s now talked about as one of the greatest players of all time, and rightly so.

“So to have him in the Premier League is huge for us all, everyone is excited about it, but if he’s the difference to take United to that title remains to be seen.
“Forget his age and name, we are talking about the guy who was top goalscorer in Serie A last season, so that is who United are signing, so it should make a big difference to them.
“And they’ve added other players in other areas as well, so it is about time United were fighting towards bringing that title back to Old Trafford.”
